On Friday, February 4, 2011, Delta Dental Smarts Smiles® and Richmond Dental Society co-sponsor the ninth annual Give Kids a Smile® Day in Richmond. Nationwide, the event is designed as an awareness and education day, with free dental care provided for as many children as possible. Our purpose is to see children who have no other means to obtain adequate dental care. In addition to a screening exam, the children in Richmond will receive a prophylaxis and fluoride varnish. Oral health education using dental literature and hands-on demonstrations are also key components of Give Kids a Smile Day in Richmond. Necessary follow-up care will be coordinated following the event.
Children were transported from area schools and Head Start programs to the Acca Shriners’ Temple at 1712 Bellevue Avenue. We were excited and worked closely with the community to make this day possible. The Peninsula Dental Hygienists' Association was represented by EuNiece.

What a great time Michelle Stephenson, RDH and Amy Rankin, RDH had at South Morrison Elementary School during Children's Dental Health Month! We educated all of the first through third grade classes (about 16 different groups of students) in proper dental hygiene. Grades one through six also received dental exams by the volunteer dentists.
Thank you Dr. Bernhard for including us in this event!
